Laudato Si' · Care for Creation

Together We Save Our Planet

Creation is a gift from God — something that connects us all and requires our attention, our care, and our action. St. Joseph's Home is committed to caring for the earth we share.

St. Joseph's Home & Laudato Si'

Laudato Si' — meaning "Praise be to you" — is Pope Francis' landmark encyclical on care for our common home. It calls on all of us, especially faith communities, to take concrete steps toward environmental stewardship. At St. Joseph's Home, we take this call seriously.

Adopting Solar Power to Reduce Costs & Carbon Footprint

St. Joseph's Home has installed solar panels on our premises to significantly decrease electricity expenses while reducing our impact on the environment.

Since installation, we have achieved monthly electricity bill reductions of 30–40% — meaningful savings that can be redirected to the children's care and education.

We characterise this shift to renewable energy as a "rewarding journey" and encourage other community organisations to consider similar technology for both its economic and ecological benefits.

Our Commitment

Caring for Creation — Every Day

Environmental stewardship is woven into daily life at St. Joseph's Home — not as an add-on, but as a natural expression of our values.

☀️

Solar Energy

Solar panels reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and lower operating costs, freeing up more resources for the children we serve.

🌿

Green Spaces & Garden

Our garden provides a peaceful, natural environment for children to learn, grow, and connect with the living world around them.

♻️

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

We teach children the importance of reducing waste and making thoughtful choices about consumption — lessons for life.

💧

Water Conservation

Mindful use of water resources is part of our daily routine, helping children understand that access to clean water is a precious gift.

🍃

Education in Nature

We bring environmental awareness into children's learning — from understanding ecosystems to the theology of creation in Catholic teaching.

🤝

Community Action

We encourage our children, volunteers, and donors to carry these principles beyond our walls — into their homes, schools, and workplaces.

"

"Care for creation is not just an optional or secondary aspect of our Christian experience: it is at the very heart of it. Our vocation is to tend and care for what God has entrusted to us."

— Pope Francis, Laudato Si'
