St Joseph's Home experienced a time of grace and spirituality as they welcomed the Perjalanan Salib (Journey of the Cross) to their Home on 11th July 2026. The event brought together boys and girls of different ages, staff, and volunteers in a shared act of faith, culminating in a prayer for the needs of the world.
The older girls and boys carried the wooden cross as they set out from St Francis Xavier Church in a procession back to the Home. They were accompanied by some children holding lighted candles, while a group of little flower girls, dressed in white and wearing floral headbands, walked ahead of the procession, sprinkling flower petals along the path.
Upon arriving at the Home, the cross was set up and adorned with white cloth, surrounded by candles and flowers arranged by the children. This became the focal point for the reflection and prayer activities that followed.
Each child was given seeds to plant in small trays and cups, one by one. Each seed represented a virtue for the children to nurture in their own lives, namely, Love, Peace, Compassion, Joy, Kindness, Faith, and Hope. Just as a seed needs care and time to grow, this activity reminded the children that these virtues also need to be nurtured daily. The symbolic planting was carried out with quiet concentration and reverence, guided by the staff present.
Following the planting activity, some of the children knelt in prayer before the cross offering their prayers for the needs of the world. The setting, marked by lighted candles and flowers laid at the foot of the cross, created a peaceful and reflective atmosphere for all present as they prayed together, reminded that the Christian journey is one of walking together in faith, carrying one another's burdens, and bearing witness to Christ's love in the world.
The Perjalanan Salib procession was a moving and meaningful experience for the children of St. Joseph's Home. Through carrying the cross, planting seeds of virtue, and praying for the world, the children were given a tangible way to reflect on faith, sacrifice, and the values they are encouraged to grow in their own lives.
